Universal's comedy sequel Pitch Perfect 2 has added The Filharmonic, an a cappella group most recently seen on reality competition The Sing-Off.
The six-member group, composed of VJ Rosales, Joe Caigoy, Trace Gaynor, Barry Fortgang, Jules Cruz and Niko Del Rey, appeared on the latest season of NBC's singing show in December.
Pitch Perfect 2, hitting theaters on May 15, 2015, will bring back many of the stars of the 2012 hit, including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp. They'll be joined by several new faces, including Katey Sagal and Hailee Steinfeld.
Elizabeth Banks, who conceived of the original film and produced it, is directing the sequel, which is currently in production. Kay Cannon, who penned the original, returned to write Pitch Perfect 2.
Paul Brooks returns to produce for Gold Circle Films alongside Banks and Max Handelman for their Brownstone Productions shingle. Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore, who is currently in preproduction to helm The Nest for Universal, will executive produce the sequel alongside Gold Circle's Scott Niemeyer. Cannon is co-producing with Gold Circle's Jeff Levine.
Universal's co-president of production Peter Cramer returns to overseeing production for Pitch Perfect 2 alongside director of development Sara Scott.
The Filharmonic's style is described as an urbanesque hip-hop sound with '90s nostalgia. The all-male group is linked through their Filipino heritage and their passion for a wide variety of performance styles including pop, a cappella, jazz, opera, theater and classical.
